I wore my first pair of 5'' heels when I was 18 years old. My friend Kyle and I decided to go walk around Downtown Disney. As I stepped out of the car in my nice, dark brown pair of Jessica Simpson Heels, I knew that walking around in in them was going be difficult because I could hardly balance myself, let alone walk straight. Half way through the night, I took off my heels because my ankles were starting to hurt. Later when I got home, I searched for tips on walking in high heels on the internet I was surprised by the amount of useful information and tips I found. I wish I had read it before purchasing pair of high heels.
I thought I would be okay to walk in high heels...all those girls on television wear them then why couldn't I? Little did I know that walking in heel shoes is a skill to be learned; most people simply cannot walk in 5'', 6'' heels on day one. You must keep the following in mind when thinking about wearing heels.

You must wear the correct foot size. For example: if your size is 6 (U.S.) then make sure you buy a pair of heels that are size 6. If you must buy size 6.5 (U.S.) then make sure to use a size corrector. Wearing an inappropriate size will cause discomfort and in turn will force you to focus on your Walkin' Pain rather than having fun on a girls night out or that first date!
Heel Size:
Anything lower than 3''/4'' is beginner level and not as elegant and glamorous. Because I am more focused on comfort and trend, I don't care if my heels are lower than 3''/4''. I am happy as long as they look pretty and match with my outfit! If it is your first time wearing heel shoes than make sure you start with something lower than 3''/4''. Once you are comfortable in small heel sizes, then move up to 3''/4'', and finally to 5''/6'' sexy stilleto heels! Don't rush this process. Remember, the more you practice the more you will walk better and confidently. We were all in Kindergarten before we hit our senior year in high school. It is a process.
Ankle Strength:
My girlfriends and I have complained so many times that we are just horrible at walking in high heels; I have also heard many girls at work, school, and shopping malls that they can't walk in heels because their ankles start hurting instantly. This could be because they have weak ankles. How is your ankle? Strong? Weak? Do you exercise? You can always count on yoga and ballet exercises.

Posture:
Make sure to have a straight back while you walk. Posture and size of heels are like sisters. The size of heels effect the posture and correct posture will allow a confident, graceful walk. To attain a proper posture, you must make sure your back is in a good shape. In humans, spinal cord connects the neck and back and allows the body to stand tall and together. Everything in your body is connected. A whacked up knee may be result of a whacked up back. A painful back maybe a result of lack of proper care of feet such as wearing the right shoes.To maintain a proper posture is difficult if your body is not used to wearing heals. If you are walking improperly, using wrong shoes, lack strength and balance then your back will eventually be in a lot of pain. In order to maintain a well posture, you must exercise, relax your muscles, and of course stand up straight when wearing heels.

Walk:
Heel. Toe. Heel. Toe. Remember this and you will be just fine. Put your weight on your heels and then your toes. Sway your hips from left to right in order to distribute your body weight evenly and swaying gives your walk a sexy look.
Attitude:
Don't hunch over or look to the ground because the minute you do, your brain will get a message that you are ready to relax and it is not the message you want to send to your brain in middle of a walk. Look up and straight ahead and be confident.

**Bonus Tips**
- Practice wearing the heels at home, to the gas station, grocery store, etc... , before you wear it to a particular event.
- Sit as if you were tipi-toing. Stand on your tipped-toes during make-up application or cooking. This will allow you to get used to standing solely on your toes.
- Exercise your ankles.
- Buy gel soles for comfort.
